Climate, Culture & Mental Health

Moner Kaj is a Bangladeshi social enterprise empowering neurodivergent artisans. We convert environmental anxieties into healing, traditional craft — addressing regional climate realities through the precise rhythm of paint, stitch, and conscious, climate-adaptive material selections.

The Intersection of Earth and Mind

"Through our work we raise awareness of climate change, facilitate adaptation and resilience, capture stories, and support communities through painting, stitches, and thoughtful product material selections."

Textiles as Data

Climate-Mapping Kantha

Traditional Nakshi Kantha — the heritage running stitch of Bengal — was historically used to tell stories on reclaimed fabric. Moner Kaj adapts this medium to map real-time climatic shifts directly into the fabric geometry.

The Weather-Data Stitching Canvas

Working with climate scientists, our artisans translate temperature and monsoon anomalies in Satkhira and Sylhet into tactile patterns. Rising sea-levels are represented by dense, heavy blue waves of indigo thread, while prolonged droughts translate to expansive, empty terracotta negative space.

02

The Story-Tag System

Every stitched piece features a raw, upcycled cotton tag. The artisan handwrites their personal climatic reality and state of mind during creation. These tags serve as a physical connection between the buyer and the human landscape of Bangladesh.

Folk Art for Climate Advocacy

Rickshaw Painting — Stories of Climate Change

Rickshaw Art & Climate

Commissioning Folk Advocacy

We partner with traditional rickshaw painters to create large-scale visual narratives. These artworks are designed to be understood instantly by communities—using familiar folk motifs to convey the urgent reality of cyclones, floods, and heatwaves.

Before & After Resilience Series

Split-canvas artworks show ecosystem vulnerability on one side (cyclones, erosion) and community adaptation on the other (mangrove restoration, floating gardens). This visual contrast makes hope tangible and actionable.

Digital Story Capsules

Each rickshaw painting is linked to a digital capsule. Buyers can scan and play a 30-second audio clip recorded in Bangla, where the artist explains the ecological memory and the specific emotional strokes behind their canvas.

Adaptation & Care

Climate-Conscious Dress & Jewelry

Our garments and adornments tell stories of climate change and the mental health crisis through design. We prioritize natural anxiety-reducing dyes and sustainable, locally sourced materials—shifting away from synthetic chemical pigments.

Adaptation & Care

Sensory Care in Extreme Heat

Extreme temperature shifts trigger cognitive fatigue and sensory strain in neurodivergent populations. Our choice of materials directly addresses this vulnerability, focusing on natural thermal cooling and calming botanical properties.
